TomTom ONE 125 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

The TomTom One 125 is an entry level portable gps device that has had more features added lately to improve its operability and overall usefulness.

The 125's EasyPort mount fits onto the back of the device, allowing the unit to fit into your pocket, bag or glove compartment. It does have spoken directions but not text to speech. This means you will be directed to "turn right here" as opposed to "turn right on Main Street". The street name is, however, shown on the screen.

The TomTom 125 has a couple of optional capabilities that some users will find useful. Traffic updates and daily fuel price updates are available for a fee. It also has over 20 available language options standard.

The "Help Me!" feature directs you to local emergency services with the touch of a button.

You also have the option of recording directions in your own voice as well as purchasing celebrity voices for certain areas.

Our Research on the TomTom One 125 GPS Suggests:

According to the general online consensus (where research is based on unbiased, non-vested comments & articles), the TomTom One 125 is an good solution for those looking for an entry level GPS system that meets the basic needs for users. It is very affordably priced and user friendly.

There are some possible negatives to the Tomtom One 125, however. It is not able to plan a multi-point trip, so it isn’t the right type of GPS for someone who often travels long distances. It isn’t compatible with Bluetooth and, therefore, does not offer hands-free operation. It has no database of points of interest (POI), and it doesn’t come with the newer technology that announces street names along with driving directions. Customer service is generally rated as being poor and ineffective.

78% of 184 reviewers on Amazon.com rate the TomTom One 125 as either 4 or 5 stars.

Consumer Reports did not have a rating on this model in their 2009 buyers guide.

Verdict:

People who are looking for an economical, basic GPS should take a look at the Tomtom One 125. It contains some powerful features that are unexpected in a low-priced unit. However, it is also missing some features that many GPS users prefer to have.
